Salt & Sundry

Amanda McClements is the founder and creative director of Salt & Sundry and Little Leaf, a trio of lifestyle boutiques located in Washington, DC.

After attending UNC Chapel Hill’s journalism school, Amanda worked as an editor and writer covering food, travel, and lifestyle for publications including Food & Wine, The Washington Post, and Martha Stewart Living. Amanda made the leap into small business with the opening of Salt & Sundry in 2012. A second location opened two years later, follow by Little Leaf, which Domino named one of the prettiest plant shops in the word. In 2018, she launched the Sun Room, an event space and creative HQ for the company in Eckington.

As a resident and business owner, what do you love most about Logan Circle?

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for almost 20 years so it really feels like a community. I can’t walk 2 blocks without running into someone — a fellow business owner, great neighbors, folks visiting for an afternoon to enjoy the streetscape.

Favorite locally-owner small business.

Since I won’t pick my own, it’d definitely be Miss Pixies. I still have treasures in my home I picked up from her old location 20 years ago — it’s a true decor destination.

Favorite restaurant.

Etto has my hear, and my favorite spot is a stool in the window with an aperitivo in hand, some anchovies in green sauce, and an American pizza on the way.

Favorite place to grab a drink.

Jane Jane and — full disclosure — I am friends with the owners, ha ha. It’s been amazing to watch their vision of an intimate cocktail bar come to life and be an instant hit. My favorite outdoor spot is definitely Garden District — it’s like our Cheers.

Favorite coffee haunt.

The Coffee Bar. It’s perched on the perfect leafy corner.
